The University of Washington is pleased to support the Washington Association for Language Teaching (WAFLT) effort to continue the service started by WAFLT and the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) in 2011 to support school districts that would like to offer World Language proficiency testing to their students. Through this language testing, students may earn from 1 to 4 Competency-Based Credits in a language they know, and possibly qualify for the State Seal of Biliteracy at high school graduation.
The University of Washington (and all public universities in the state) recognize that students who have earned 2 or more of these Competency Credits on their high school transcript can satisfy the college admissions requirement of 2 high school credits of the same World Language. At the UW, students who have earned 3 (or more) high school credits in the same language can also satisfy the college language exit requirement. (Students who did not earn Comp Credits for their language in high school and speak and read and write a language that is not taught at the UW may be able to complete UW World Language Exit Requirement Proficiency Testing through the Language Learning Center through a partnership with WAFLT Testing.)
WAFLT Testing is delighted to announce that OSPI will now be coordinating Custom Tests with Avant Assessment and Extempore for public school districts in Washington state. If you know your district will be needing these tests, please fill out the Custom Test Request Form for writing and speaking proficiency assessment. Current languages available for evaluation are listed on the form. If the language is not listed, please select ''Other'' and email Lisa.Werner@avantassessent.com. As it can take some time to find and train language raters, districts are encouraged to request early.
