Henry Art Gallery Seeks Public and Youth Programs Assistant (Work Study Position)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Henry Art Gallery seeks an individual with exceptional interpersonal skills and an interest in intergenerational community programs to work as the Public and Youth Programs Assistant. The Public and Youth Programs Assistant (PYPA) supports the ArtVentures program by coordinating with and assisting Henry staff, teaching artists, and volunteers; helping with development of activities and outreach; creating a welcoming environment for guests; and administering evaluations. In addition, the PYPA provides general support for public and youth programs, including administrative and research support for the Henry Art Liaison Program, Lobby programming, and other areas as needed. The PYPA will also have opportunities to assist with or lead special projects such as evaluations and field research, as well as provide support at museum events. The PYPA is responsible for interacting in a timely, organized, and professional manner and is an important part of shaping our intergenerational programs. The ArtVentures program recurs on first Sundays, October to June, and the PYPA will be expected to co-facilitate most sessions. We anticipate that programs will take place on-site, at partner locations throughout the city, and online.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications:
-Passion for or interest in contemporary art and ideas
– A strong interest in community engagement and education, teaching, or engaging directly with intergenerational audiences of all ages
– Experience and interest in working towards equitable and anti-racist practices
– A self-starter who demonstrates a sense of ownership over projects and can work independently, demonstrating initiative and proficiency at problem-solving
– Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
– Excellent writing, interpersonal, and oral communication skills and comfort working collaboratively with a team –
– ability to work some weekends and evening hours
Preferred:
– Experience with customer service and/or teaching
– Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite, Google Drive, and social media platforms
EDUCATIONAL BENEFITS
This position will work closely with the Associate Curator of Public and Youth Programs, the Programs Manager, the Henry Art Liaison Program Manager, teaching artists, visiting artists, and museum guests. Reporting to the Associate Curator of Public and Youth Programs, this position will have access to the full range of operations that inform educational and public program offerings at the museum and will include access to professional development opportunities specific to intergenerational and community arts education. A student with an interest in contemporary art, studio practice, community outreach and education, or arts administration would particularly benefit from the opportunities this position offers.
Skills learned include: Intergenerational group facilitation, collaborative process strategies, evaluation design and execution, community engagement, and expanded knowledge of museum practices and contemporary art.
