Bainbridge Island Museum of Art seeks PT Registrar
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Registrar, a vital member of BIMA, supports the Curatorial Department with databases, forms, files, and logistics associated with exhibition development, including loan, transport, care, and installation of artworks presented in BIMA’s exhibitions. The Registrar provides vital art collection support, including help with committees, and acts as an additional liaison for collections and archive management. This person reports to the Associate Curator and interfaces with the Chief Curator, Facility Manager, Gallery and Volunteer Manager, Gallery Hosts, Volunteers, and other departments regarding gallery management duties – as they relate to the care and safety of the artwork.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain and execute BIMA databases and forms in support of Exhibitions and the Permanent Art Collection.
- Train in BIMA art handling and art installation policies and procedures, and assist the Art Installation Team as needed, with a primary focus on
- Registrar-type duties as opposed to art installation per se.
- Assist with implementing short- and long-range department goals and operating procedures required for improving care, preservation, and risk management of BIMA’s collections.
- Assist in coordinating and tracking artworks, contracts, loan agreements etc. with artists, collectors, galleries, art institutions, community partners, etc.
- Administer aspects of incoming and outgoing artwork, tally and report on the insurance values and coverage of the artwork, track artworks en-route as necessary, and assist with art pick-ups and deliveries.
- Assist with and help supervise the unpacking and packing of artworks, associated materials and fixtures. Maintain complete and accurate documentation of condition reports for all works of art entering and leaving BIMA and during an exhibition.
- Help communicate, guide, and consult with staff on the condition of artworks during installation and de-installation to ensure the safe handling and storage of artwork in BIMA’s care.
- Help with routine monitoring and maintenance of the exhibitions.
Collaborate to ensure proper inventory, storage, and security of the artworks in BIMA’s archive. - Create, update, and confirm all necessary Deed of Gift files and processes in BIMA’s collections database Zetcom and provide staff support to the
- Acquisitions and Exhibitions (A&E) Committee as needed, under the guidance of the Chief Curator and Associate Curator.
- Assist with accessioning process, including recording object information, photographing objects, proper housing for objects, and conducting annual inventories.
- Assists with exhibition display information including labels, text panels, and signage.
- Assists with Gallery Host and Volunteer supervision duties when needed.

Compensation Range: $18 per hour, average of 16 hours per week (potential for more during art installation cycles). Schedule may vary with deadlines and work plan. This is an on-site position.
