Henry Art Gallery – Art Liaison Internship

The Henry Art Gallery is once again offering their year-long Art Liaison Internship. This is a year-long commitment, learning and working in the Gallery. Details outlined below! Interested applicants should send their application materials to contact-programs@henryart.org by August 15.
Art 496B: Henry Art Liaison Internship (2cr/quarter)
Fall Term (Starting date September 29)
Meeting Time: Thursday, 4–6:50 PM
Total weekly commitment: Average of 6 hours per week
Location: Henry Art Gallery
Instructor: TBDThe first quarter of a three-quarter paid internship program, this course uses the lenses of equity, antiracist museum practices, and collaborative learning to introduce selected students from all majors to the work of contemporary art interpretation and community engagement within the museum setting. Building on the idea that everyone’s life and learning can be enriched through dialogue with contemporary art practices, students in the Henry Art Liaison program will receive mentorship and training to eventually lead dynamic and community-centered engagements that offer multiple pathways for school and student groups, families, and the general public to connect with the concepts and conversations found within the museum’s exhibitions, as well as other local arts-related offerings. Enjoining classroom study with professional development
opportunities, students will investigate and practice strategies in visitor engagement and museum education, exploring both general issues related to art interpretation and education. Weekly salon meetings with the program manager will include discussion, public engagement development and practice, visits with Henry staff and other guest interlocutors, trips to other galleries and cultural institutions, as well as one-on-one advising.
Gallery training and tours: In addition to weekly salon meetings, Henry Art Liaisons will be expected to commit to additional hours each week for tour preparation and practice and other onsite, course-related activities for an average of six hours per week. A maximum of 6 students will be admitted to this program.
Students in all majors are encouraged to apply. Please email your letter of interest, résumé (may include past and current coursework), and contact information for 2 faculty or professional references to  contact-programs@henryart.org by August 15.
Students who take this course will earn two credits per quarter, as well as a $600 stipend for each quarter upon completion of required duties/hours.
