Gut Health and Child Survival researchers present findings at virtual infectious diseases conferences

This month, researchers and collaborators from Global WACh’s Gut Health and Child Survival scientific priority area participated in two annual conferences virtually to share their latest research activities and discoveries related to pediatric infectious diseases and neglected tropical diseases.

Coalition for Operational Research on Neglected Tropical Diseases (COR-NTD) – November 12-14, 2020
COR-NTD gathers researchers, program implementers, and their in-country partners with a shared goal of optimizing NTD control and elimination.  Dr. Arianna Means (Acting Assistant Professor, Global Health) participated in a video presentation titled, “Introducing the new NTD Community of Practice to the NTD community,” that highlighted a new Community of Practice (CoP) platform designed to support African NTD program managers.  Through the CoP, participants can learn from one another in-person and online and collaborate in the pursuit of reaching national and global NTD benchmarks. The video presentation also included representatives from the World Health Organization, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the University of Global Health Equity, and Program Manager panelists from Kenya, Mali, Liberia, Burkina Faso, Angola, and Uganda.  More information about the conference may be available online at a later date.

 

American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH) – November 15-19, 2020
ASTMH is the largest international scientific organization of experts dedicated to reducing the worldwide burden of tropical infectious diseases and improving global health. Dr. Judd Walson, Global WACh Co-Director, co-chaired the symposium session, “Chances and challenges for the control and elimination of soil-transmitted Helminth infections”.  His presentation in the session was titled, “When a program appears to fail – determining failure of compliance or emergence of resistance.”
