All of you have calculated your emissions and you have surely discovered the unexpectedly high impact of some of your behaviors (eating meat, flying to a sunny destination, etc.) on your total footprints.
Are there any behaviors that you are really willing to change or to improve for the sake of the environment? What challenges do you encounter or think you will encounter while trying to change these things? What help, support, and insights from others would make your life easier with these new behaviors?
Let's discuss these issues and make our pledges here!
Now It's Time for Action >
Climate Change
By burning fossil fuels, cutting down trees, and raising livestock, humans are rapidly affecting the atmosphere and the earth's temperature. This adds massive quantities of greenhouse gases to the already existing ones in the atmosphere, amplifying the greenhouse effect and contributing to global warming. As a result of climate change, humans and wild animals are facing new survival threats. Droughts that are more frequent and serious, hurricanes, heat waves, rising sea levels, melting glaciers, and warming oceans can all damage wildlife, destroy their habitats, and disrupt people's livelihoods and communities.
Dangerous weather conditions are becoming more frequent and serious as climate change worsens. Heat waves and wildfires, as well as coastal storms and floods, are having drastic effect on cities and towns throughout the United States. We must significantly reduce global carbon emissions to prevent the worst consequences of climate change. However, we must also plan for the severe and foreseeable effects of carbon emissions, such as rising temperatures, changing precipitation patterns, ocean acidification, sea level rise, and an increase in the severity and frequency of extreme weather events.
