What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?
925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Supporting Local and Growing your own food!
If we want to save this planet we have to reduce the amount of animal based products we consume. That includes beef, chicken, pork, lamb, dairy, eggs, and more. If society were to all reduce the amount of animal based product at this second we could be going towards a greener world. One way we can do that is by supporting your local community instead of buying from big companies on the other side of the world (for example China). If we did this the worlds air quality will be much better especially in parts of the world which are close to factories. If the air quality is better then the world is less warm which means climate will be at the lowest 1.5 degree Celsius. Another way is to grow your own food! Which means starting your own garden and providing food for your own family. This will make the community greener and the air fresher. This will also take up less land then it would for companies who take up many.
Yes, I agree with this post because this is something that needs to be brought up more in topics toward climate change. Animal agriculture is 51% of the main cause of climate change. I feel that if we buy more food from our local farmers market we can get fresher food from our local farms instead of the food coming from the other side of our world. If we buy our food from companies from the other side of the world it will be worse for our environment because of all of the vehicles and ships needed to have our food on our tables. This shipping can also cause a lot of carbon in our world which is very damaging to our environment. I do agree that if we stop buying food from big companies it will help our climate and if we buy more food from our local farmers we get the same food but with less carbon in the air.
Here is where i'm gonna go against you here.
Local Food Criticism
We may be able to produce some of our amenities locally, but, due to cultures, races, and religions, many "exotic" foods have to be imported. (rice, bananas, lychee) We also live in a climate for the winter frost kills off most food-producing plants, making year-round food production harder. Unless we develop new ways to grow during winter, and be able to mass produce it, we need to continue to import food from the United States and beyond, not only because of the climate, but because we need to be able to satisfy people's appetite.
Meat Criticism
We can definitely eat less meat, but again, cultures, races, and religions always have implications. I have to agree with you, but bear in mind that due to cultural practices, we both have to import and consume meat.
