Food & Hunger

What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?

925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Food Waste During the Pandemic

ScreenName3507

Due to many restaurants shutting down, a lot of excess food was produced by farmers. This excess food had nowhere to go, so many suppliers destroyed their crop. After this, they kept producing in order to not be left behind in case business would start back up again. While it would theoretically be impossible to put all of it to use, the absolute waste of food that could be given to those who need it was disheartening to see. This repeating cycle also contributed to the greenhouse effect without any benefit to humans whatsoever.

Wow, I didn't even consider the effect the pandemic had on food waste. I completely agree with you; the food should have been given to those in need.
