Reuse & Repurpose

It's very tempting to throw things away or even drop them in a recycling bin when we are done with them. Is there a better way?

Share your ideas for extending the “lives” of the items that we buy and use, and their packaging as well!

Instead of throwing away or recycling our trash, we could try, trash burning. Trash burning would greatly reduce the amount of space in that garbage takes up in Landfills.

Burning trash might reduce the space it takes up in landfills, but it also causes air pollution, which contributes to global warming.

I agree with Ben trash burning could be reduce the space of this trash, but it makes too much air pollution and this increases the global warming

Burning trash won’t do anything.  It actually releases so much C02 into the atmosphere. Burning trash can cause long-term health problems. The toxic chemicals released during burning include nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, volatile organic chemicals and polycyclic organic matter.  This is not a solution.  A solution would be to recycle plastic and trash or cut out single use plastic from out economy.

The single-use, throw-away practices of modern-day didn't really happen until the '50s, Post-WWII. During the war manufacturers ramped up their ability to produce supplies for the war effort, but when the war ended, they had a lot invested in these factories and decided to create the idea of single-use throwaway items to make a new market. Our throw-away economies are relatively new and contribute significantly to our carbon footprint. We can make a big impact on our carbon footprint by recreating reuse systems -- and the circular economy. The circular economy focuses on reducing packaging, reusing materials, and recycling the resources we've already extracted from the environment. These practices, particularly reducing packaging and reusing containers, reduces carbon emissions -- and also cuts way back on the plastics polluting our oceans.
