What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?
925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Fresh Grown Produce
If our produce was freshly grown and not pounded with pesticides or chemicals to make it grow faster and look more appetizing, then we would not have as many pollutants. Freshly grown produce would most likely make humans emit less, or cause less issues with the emissions. We could not solve the issue of the items we use and their emissions, but gases emitted by humans also create a problem.
I completely agree. To add a couple more ideas as to why fresh grown produce are a key factor in a more sustainable life, organic produce have more health benefits for humans. Organic foods have 20-40% more antioxidants than foods that contain chemicals and pesticides. Organic foods lack many of the most common yet dangerous chemicals for humans to consume such as cadmium. There is a 48% lower chance that organic produce will test positive for cadmium. Organic foods play a key role in the emission of carbon and other greenhouse gases. According to research conducted by the Columbia Climate School, pesticides alone and other chemicals used on foods contribute to 3-5% of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere as well as many other negative impacts on the environment such as erosion in the soil, a loss in environmental biodiversity, pollution, and specifically water pollution. The risks involved from using these pesticides and chemicals do not outweigh the reasons to keep using the pesticides on our foods. Organic farming in moderation is great for a number of reasons. For starters, it completely eliminates the opportunity for dangerous pesticide runoff, it enhances soil quality, and most importantly, it is much healthier for humans which are the consumers. In conclusion, freshly grown produce does lead to lower carbon emissions and is overall, healthier for humans and the environment. It should be advertised more and the average consumer should be more encouraged to buy it.
