Food & Hunger

What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?

925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Yes, with more people using public transportation, it could also save people money as well.

that's true, nick.  in a lot of communities that lack public transportation, the politicians and city planners need to see that there is demand for public transportation in order to develop those options.  But at the same time, unless the public transit system is good enough, people won't use it (for example, if a bus only runs once a day in each direction, you can't really use it efficiently).  Therefore, at some point communities just need to take the bold action to set up a public transit system withe the idea that once its available people will use it.  And once a lot of people use it, it can become cost effective, mainkly in terms of making the city more liveable, and hence improving the economy.
