Food & Hunger

What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?

925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Over priced food.

Most foods are overpriced especially healthy ones. We should try to make healthy foods more available for everyone.

I agree with this. Food with healthy ingredients is way more expensive than junk food.
Of course better quality means higher price but this is leading to less and less people eating healthy, expecially after the economic crisis that followed the COVID-19 pandemic.
To make a simple example, a teenager would never spend $20 for its lunch when he can have a complete meal with only $5 in fastfood restaurants.

I agree with you, also to help people who are perhaps less economically stable. But it's not that simple, between the global crisis of 2009 and the "greed" of big business it is a very difficult thing to do

I agree with you and one way that the government is combating this is with food stamps. Food stamps only allow certain types of food to be bought and the food stamps do not apply to things like chips and soda but they do apply to vegetables, fruit, etc.

I agree with all of these posts. To use organic food as an example, society has created a normalcy around organic foods being more expensive than inorganic foods. We need to create a system where food isn't overpriced. Getting organic food shouldn't cost so much more.
