To put that into perspective, approximately TWELVE percent of the world's population is hungry. That saddens me since, in recent years, many individuals have been wasting food. A significant portion of the food produced contains preservatives or is genetically modified. I believe that as a species, we can and should do better when it comes to dealing with food. For instance, if you have fruits in a "fruit bowl" or in the refrigerator, don't let them rot because that would be a waste. It may not appear to be much, but if you eat that brown banana or that bruised apple, you will be doing a lot for the environment.
