All of you have calculated your emissions and you have surely discovered the unexpectedly high impact of some of your behaviors (eating meat, flying to a sunny destination, etc.) on your total footprints.

Are there any behaviors that you are really willing to change or to improve for the sake of the environment? What challenges do you encounter or think you will encounter while trying to change these things? What help, support, and insights from others would make your life easier with these new behaviors?

Let's discuss these issues and make our pledges here!

Making a real difference

quwaBOD

We need to move away from blaming consumers for global warming. Not only is the impact a single person contributes to global warming extremely negligible, but a lot of it is unavoidable. According to an article by Harvard Political Review, "While it remains important for individuals to make more sustainable consumer choices, they must also be aware of such changes’ limited efficacy." We can be hyper-focused on our carbon footprint and make little to no difference, or we can rally against the real problem when it comes to global warming - money-hungry politicians and corporations. By getting local politicians into office who genuinely care about global warming and want to protect people, we can start to make a real difference. To be clear, I am not advocating for purchasing anything you want with no regard for the consequences. However, by switching to more effective forms of climate activism, everyday people can begin to create true change within their communities as well as in society.
