Food & Hunger

What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?

925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Could climate change be human made? And is it real?

KoChBOD

Carbon dioxide is further growing in the world, polar ice caps are melting, and the heating of the earth is continuous and growing, but is it even real? Or nonetheless human-caused? These questions are similarly faced in front of scientists today as many argue over the idea of climate change and if the most simple acts of humans could be widely impacting our world today. But the questions of, "Could climate change be human-made?" and "Is it real?" That leaves our earth both confused and warm will be explained in this post... In my opinion, the idea of climate change being both human-made and real is, in fact, existent in our world today! According to The New York Times, "The Science of Climate Change Explained: Facts, Evidence and Proof" written by journalist Julia Rosen with a Ph.D. in Geology, explains, "Greenhouse gases have a powerful effect on climate (see the next question for why). And since the Industrial Revolution, humans have been adding more of them to the atmosphere, primarily by extracting and burning fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas, which releases carbon dioxide." Regarding if climate change is real, is an article created by NASA (https://climate.nasa.gov/evidence/), shows the different ways in which climate change is both here on earth and visible to people at this time. Things like global temperature rise, warming oceans, shrinking ice sheets, sea-level rise, and more, all explained in that article show how climate change is prominent and in fact real on earth. In conclusion, climate change, carbon dioxide growth, polar ice caps melting, and the warming of the earth frequently come into scientists' minds when we think of our earth, and concern us every day. But do we really know if it is existent and both human-caused? Yes, it is and because of humans, we are rapidly causing climate issues to affect our earth more and more heavily than ever like sea levels rising, the warming of our oceans, and more. Why does this matter? This matters because not only does it damage our atmosphere and the resources which we need, but because it damages our earth, breaks down the environments which plants need to thrive, and endangers our earth every day as the climate rises. So taking a chance by, using less electricity, and holding our factories and companies accountable for such high carbon and smoke produced with more efficient ways to create things will reduce climate change on our earth and protect us from a broken down earth.
