What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?
925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

does throwing away food affect the environment?
Wasting food is not just a social concern as it is an environmental one. When wasting food it is also wasting all the time and energy to grow it. When thrown away the food rots and produces methane which is a greenhouse effect. One-third of food produced is not eaten. An average of 6-8% of people are the cause of greenhouse gas being released into the atmosphere from wasting food. Ways to help this change is by giving little by little to people in need. We should not waste food but make use of it. If we stop producing food that we don't eat we would be saving water and energy that was to make the product.
