What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?
925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Through this website, I learned many things about how your diet can affect your carbon footprint. Eating beef releases lots of carbon into the atmosphere. The transportation used to transport beef is extremely bad for the environment. The cows also release carbon through waste. Overall the best way to take care of our planet is to become vegan. Although it is a hard lifestyle change it is necessary to maintaining a healthy atmosphere for generations to come.
A cow releases about 100 kg methane per year which is equal to 2,300 kg of CO2. If you burn 1,000 liters of petrol a car uses 8 liters of petrol per 100 km so you could drive 12’500 km per year (7,800 miles per year). Then there is the 2.8 billion metric tons of CO2 for grazing and farming land. There are approximately 1.5 billion cows worldwide. So if we were to all become vegans we would eliminate 3450 billion CO2 from the world.
Are cows the cause of global warming?
