What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?
925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

How does wasting food contribute to climate change?
Wasting food makes a big impact on climate change. In fact, 8 percent of all global emissions are from wasted food. When food is produced, there are a lot of steps to transport it, in order for us to eat it. They have to grow, harvest, transport, and package it which uses a lot of energy. When we throw that food out, all of the energy was simply a waste. You may be wondering how much food actually goes to waste. 1/3 of all food in the entire world gets thrown out and is never eaten. That is approximately $408 billion worth of food. It becomes even more of a problem when there are people who don't have enough money for basic necessities such as money. We have enough money to feed the world but our problem is not distributing it correctly. Some things you can do at home to help is making sure to buy only what you need and plan accordingly.
You can also use your freezer to store frozen food because it last longer. Overall, food waste is something that you should try to avoid today because it negatively impacts us all.

I agree with you in some ways, but it really depends on your lifestyle and eating habits, a person in Manhattan NY will produce more carbon per calorie ingested than a person in Kansas eating that same calorie, you should really focus on what your surroundings are and what is your reality if you are unsure about what to do ask a team of lock experts
agreed
Whenever we have spare or wasted food we compost it for our garden, or feed it to our chickens to eat.
by people wasting food buying it and not eating it
I agree completely. Especially with meat, wasted food creates a ton of carbon which causes climate change, most fruits and veggies can be composted, but chicken and steaks and other meat can't which contributes a lot more to the problem.
I fully agree! Some of that wasted food is still edible and should not be thrown away! Nothing is worse then when you see still good food in the trash. Just because it might be unwanted, doesn't give anyone the right to throw it away! Some people need that food.
