Food & Hunger

What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?

925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Don't waste food

MelanieCUTE

Save your food for later instead of throwing it away

Doffy

Don't waste food because the farmers who grow the food for us takes care of the food we eat and it takes a long time to grow rice. Farmers also have to wake up really early even for fishers. So, inorder to thank them, we eat their things.

Fiona_unibff

yes I agree  if we waste food we can feed like animals not just throw it away because food are very hard to get and when it is producing it takes along time.

Jasmine0702

I also agree with you. It takes a long time for farmers to grow these crops. It is really hard for them. We should understand and stop wasting food.It takes millions of years for soil to regrow for just a bit. We should treasure the food that we get, and be thankful that we are so lucky to be able to eat everyday.

I agree, don't waste food. If you waste food, they have to burn it, if you burn food you will create harm to the environment.

I agree that we should not waste food. It's because if the food rots, it will rot with other organic stuff which creates methane gas. Methane gas is 25 times more powerful than carbon pollution. Methane gas traps heat in the atmosphere which causes Climate Change. Climate Change creates bad effects like drought, storms, and other toxic stuff to us and Earth. Also people waste resources if they waste food. For example, we waste fertilizers that help our plant grow, machines that produce food and gather the crops, or plastic that package our food. To reduce waste of food, we can compost foods that are fresh to help make the soil rich and fresh for other plants we can eat to grow. Also we can save the leftover food and eat it tomorrow so that people do not eat the food once and buy things over and over.

I also agree because we dump 1.2 million tons every year and why don’t we use them to feed the 828 million people in hunger? It is a good idea as we already have food banks that feed the hunger! If we realize we can’t eat everything, we can’t feed the hungry, this we won’t have food waste and have less hungry people.

I agree what they say because that people's waste food will be transport to the burning place as yoyo say we dump 1.2 million tons of food every year. That burning from food will cause air pollution. Yoyo also said that if we don't waste the food we can feed 826 people that is in need of food more than us. If we gave our food to the people that is starving they will appreciate anything food that is giving it to them. They won't waste food because they are desperate for food.

yeppp, we should always be grateful for the farmers. they've worked so hard for selling all these crops and stuff. try your best to not waste food. make a good use of them wink

Arnel

I agree, we need to stop wasting food cause we might not know the time that we need food.

julie28

I also agree that we shouldn't waste food, because whether it's you, your friend(s), or your guardian(s) who earned the money to buy that food, blood, sweat, tears, and a lot of effort was put into it. So let's all be grateful and not waste food sad

HenryLin

yes, I agree don't waste food because if we keep wasting food before we know we will be running out of food and water and we are not the ones making money our family is the ones that make money so we should eat all our food we have to be grateful for getting to eat food.
