It's very tempting to throw things away or even drop them in a recycling bin when we are done with them. Is there a better way?

Reuse THEN recycle
I personally think that reusing an item THEN recycling it is a much better alternative than recycling it directly. This way, we can save up money! For example, we won't have to buy a bottle every day, we just fill the one we have with water.
I totally agree. Plastic bottles are good for much more than one use. Additionally, there are many other ways to reuse plastic bottles. For example, there are tons of neat craft ideas with them online. I remember when I was younger, I used to go through the trash and recycling in my house for some old plastic to tinker around with. This was a fun way for me to get creative and reduce single-use plastic waste.
I agree. Reusing an item THEN recycling is much better. For example a jar. You can use jars to decorate your room, you can use jars to store items, etc. There are other examples too such as plastic bags, old clothing, etc. You can craft a LOT of stuff out of these items. Plus, You can save a lot of money!
I totally agree, but I think you should try to use as little as possible and avoid buying wasteful things. For most of us, things like plastic bottles are completely unnecessary, and there are ways to reduce plastic use in almost everything we buy. You could buy things that are packaged in paper or not packaged at all. Plastic that already exists will never just go away in our lifetimes, so the only way to really get rid of it is to prevent it from being created in the first place.
I agree with you 100%. Many things that are directly being recycled can be used much more before being recycled allowing for much better efficiency and conservation of resources. This way we would also have to buy less as we are reusing more allowing for production to be slowed down.
I agree, reusing is objectively better than recycling something as a whole.
Reusing then recycling is a very good idea to prevent more waste of material, while still recycling material for different uses.
At first when I saw your post, I wondered where this idea would actually work in real life. Then I thought about clothes! Clothes are the best example of reusing THEN recycling. Once a pair of jeans don't fit anymore, you could reuse them and turn the fabric into pillows or scrap fabric for arts and crafts. Once that craft is worn out, THEN you should recycle it.
I agree with your idea, as a plastic bottle can be reused more than once and can create more than its intended purpose. For example, it could be a plant holder, water distributor, paint cup, flower pot and so much more. It all depends on the usage and efficiency

I also believe in the importance of using every item to its last thread or possibility of being mended, so that we can get incomparable longevity out of all of our resources.
yes. adding an extra step of reusing something first before recycling would definitly help, an example of this would be reusing a plastic water bottle before recycling it.
