Extreme Weather

In the Northern Hemisphere in 2017 and 2018 brought several destructive hurricanes to the shores of North America, the Caribbean, and throughout the Pacific rim. Such extreme weather events are predicted to get more common and more severe with increasing climate change.

Several participating classes in the ISCFC were or are in the path of these storms and we hope for the best for them, their families and communities.

We would love to hear from students affected directly and indirectly by extreme weather events, and also any students who have been following the news this summer.

What are your thoughts about the connection between climate change and extreme weather events? Has this hurricane season increased your concern about climate change or not? Do you think that US citizens and residents (and others in the region) will take climate change more seriously now?

Global Warming

Some people don't believe global warming is real. What proof could I show "these people" that global warming is real?

Luiisa

Hello, i agree with you, a lot of people today don't belive that global warming is real. To convince these people i could talk about the place where i live in the north of Italy. In this area last summer there was a flooding, the river has came out of his bed, it flooded the country and blocked the streets for days. In my area there are ski resorts and there is a glacier where we can ski, in the last 30 years the glacier has melted a lot because of high temperatures.

Hello, there are various examples of how global warming exists, just look for information on the internet, such as:
-The increase of temperatures, which since 1880 the average global temperatures have increased by 1,2 °C;
-The increase of CO2, as from last April, that the Earth’s atmosphere has a carbon dioxide (CO2) content of 420 parts per million (0,00042%);
-The snowpack, which is very sensitive to the rise in temperature, in fact satellite data show that with the rise in global temperatures, the extension of snow decreased to a rate of 550 thousand km2 every decade: an area slightly larger than the Spain.
These are some examples of how warming is real and affects us closely.

I believe climate change is real because it is having as many effects on the world, as forest fires and ice melts. I see the situation in Italy, in my country where the last winter it hasn't snowed and in summer were high temperatures;there had never been there.
I also believe it's mostly man made because we have contributed more and haven't done much to try and stop residents from doing something about it.

Hello, I don't know how some people do not see global warming, I live in the mountains, does it seem normal to you that it is 20 degrees in NOVEMBER ?! Another example, last summer there were  really high temperatures that caused drought. And the glacier Presena is melting and that will cause problems to local economies.

Hi, I belive global warming is real. Where I live, in a small village ;in Valle Camonica in Italy, in the mountains, global warming is having terrible effects;for example the melting of glaciers or storms that are more and more frequent and that will cause problems to the local economy. These natural disasters are caused by rising temperatures that also affect the ecosystem, animals, plants, people, weather and our life.
