What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?
925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

The effects of food waste
Nowadays people waste a ton of food, which has serious impact on the environment. By wasting food we also waste all the water and energy it takes to grow, harvest, transport, package and cook it. Furthermore, when food ends up in the landfill and rots, it produces methane, a greenhouse gas that is even more potent than Carbon Dioxide.
I agree, methane is very bad for the environment. It traps heat in the atmosphere and slows down the rate at which it leaves our planet, therefore contributing to climate change by increasing the temperature on Earth.
I agree, more food waste could lead to more dire consequences for our entire planet. It's more than just throwing away what you dont want, eating/ saving food more could benefit us slowly.
Food waste also does not help people who are in need of food and like said earlier, food waste hurts the environment and the people of the environment. All the food that is thrown away, especially in the United States makes no sense, as we should be buying as little as we need. This is because people need that food and increasing demand causes prices to go up. The increased demand for food causes the prices of food to go up and that affects many lower class families who already are struggling without inflation.
You have proven a point there. You are right there are indeed tons of waste of food, and the amount of food being wasted is just way too extreme and could end up leading to methane which could cause air pollution. This issue should be discussed as this is a serious issue and probably think of some solution to prevent food waste such as composting.
I agree, every person in the U.S. has on average wasted 219 pounds of food or almost 100 kg of food. Those statistics are from this year and the year isn't over yet. This means that the food waste will continue to increase. I really hate how much food people waste because I always think of homeless people and people in other countries that don't have enough food to eat. We need to find new ways to prevent food waste.
