Food & Hunger

What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?

925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Food Waste

Most of the people reading this likely have access to enough food to keep you full all the time. But many others do not have that privilege. So next time you are full before finishing your plate and ready to throw it away, try saving your food for tomorrow. It may sound like an unnecessary and boring task to save a few bucks, but it can help reduce the amount of food waste going into the dumps. If you can’t, try to put enough food to make you full on your plate to prevent leftovers in the first place.

Yeah I totally agree with you, I live in California and most of the people I know throw away their food without a second thought. They don't try to compost it or do anything else. I feel like this is a large problem that many people just don't think about.

This is definitely one of the best solutions to excess food waste, but another is to only make enough for you or whoever is eating with you. if you don't make too much food, then you wont have any to throw away.
