Food & Hunger

What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?

925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Reducing Food Waste

Preventing food waste sounds like a large task to tackle, but in reality it can be really simple. While you're at the grocery store, check the expiration dates on the food you're buying. Make/buy proportions of food that make sense. Make serving sizes that you know you can eat so that there's no chance of any of it going to waste. When you're at a restaurant, take your food to go and eat it tomorrow instead of throwing it away. So many people in the world don't have the luxury of eating whatever they want when they want. Please be grateful for what you have and be thinking of others that don't have as much.
