Food & Hunger

What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?

925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

reduce your waste

theriddler

Food waste is a big issue in many developed countries like the US. People who live comfortably are often less worried about affording food, so they don't always take into account how much food they actually need. This leads to buying too much at a time and letting some products go to waste. These wasted foods could have been given to people who would actually use them instead of wasting the possible gases used in the production of food. There are many ways for people to reduce their waste. You can make a list of what you need before going to a store, for starters. Also, if you do happen to have any wasted food, donating it to your local food bank or personally giving it to someone in need can make a huge difference in somebody's life.
