Extreme Weather

In the Northern Hemisphere in 2017 and 2018 brought several destructive hurricanes to the shores of North America, the Caribbean, and throughout the Pacific rim. Such extreme weather events are predicted to get more common and more severe with increasing climate change.

Several participating classes in the ISCFC were or are in the path of these storms and we hope for the best for them, their families and communities.

We would love to hear from students affected directly and indirectly by extreme weather events, and also any students who have been following the news this summer.

What are your thoughts about the connection between climate change and extreme weather events? Has this hurricane season increased your concern about climate change or not? Do you think that US citizens and residents (and others in the region) will take climate change more seriously now?

Extreme weather

We can affect how harsh weather can be. No, it's not some wizardry, but unfortunately, it's true. How we live our daily lives can affect how much greenhouse gases we produce, which then can affect the weather. For example, driving everywhere you go instead of biking or walking produces a lot more CO2. That CO2 will allow more sunlight to enter the earth's surface, which causes global warming. Global warming then causes extremely harsh weather. I live in an area that doesn't get affected by natural disasters as often as other areas, but there have been weathers that I experienced that were very harsh.  For example, a couple of months ago the weather temperature went up to 118 degrees Fahrenheit, which is not very usual. Global warming is caused by the enhanced greenhouse effect which is rooty caused by human activity. We have to unite as a world, as a species, to stop this from destroying our planet earth, which by the end of the day will probably destroy us. Millions of people have already lost their lives and their homes to these extreme weathers, so what is stopping these extreme weathers from destroying the rest of us too? Before doing anything that might produce greenhouse gasses, ask yourself, is it worth it?
