Reuse & Repurpose

It's very tempting to throw things away or even drop them in a recycling bin when we are done with them. Is there a better way?

Share your ideas for extending the “lives” of the items that we buy and use, and their packaging as well!

Reuse and Repurpose

Reducing and reusing things is crucial in order to keep a healthy environment. When waste builds up, landfills build up, which is terrible for our ecosystem. This is one of the ways the air is polluted, effecting us and all living things around us. When the amount of energy and natural resources is reduced, manufacturing would also be reduced. Waste management can be the first step to helping the environment improve.

landfills are a huge problem. They don't have oxygen to break up the amount of plastic and waste built up. Food waste produces methane when it's in a landfill and that creates less space for oxygen. One way we can prevent this is to compost food waste. Also, using a reusable water bottle will put less plastic into landfills. Reusing glass and cans and not buying single-use plastic will reduce the amount of carbon being released into our environment.

Landfills have always seemed to be a problem with no solutions. The reason is that we don’t combine our effort enough to recycle and reuse. Educating people about the damages that landfills cause and encouraging them to repurpose majorities of material is something that needs to be expanded upon. This is because landfills are places where trash and reusable materials are throw away despite further use of them. Then, in the landfills, which are by the way a destruction of soil and harm to the underground ecosystems, the is no space for oxygen to compost the waste inside. This create methane that is released from the landfill into the atmosphere, which slowly increases the global warming process which we are fighting currently. Perhaps the only way of preventing your trash from creating methane is by not making it trash and reusing it. Bottles, plastic materials, and styrofoam are all things that can be recycled or repurposed. Help protect the very earth that we live on.
