In the Northern Hemisphere in 2017 and 2018 brought several destructive hurricanes to the shores of North America, the Caribbean, and throughout the Pacific rim. Such extreme weather events are predicted to get more common and more severe with increasing climate change.
Several participating classes in the ISCFC were or are in the path of these storms and we hope for the best for them, their families and communities.
We would love to hear from students affected directly and indirectly by extreme weather events, and also any students who have been following the news this summer.
What are your thoughts about the connection between climate change and extreme weather events? Has this hurricane season increased your concern about climate change or not? Do you think that US citizens and residents (and others in the region) will take climate change more seriously now?

Hurricane Harvey: Climate Change
In Texas last month Hurricane Harvey hit Houston very hard and I saw many homes devastated. I was lucky enough to not flood, although my brothers ceiling did fall through, but many of my friends did flood, and the destruction was terrible. All these recent hurricanes I think have been a major wake up call for the world that climate change is a very serious issue and we need to change our ways before more devastation occurs.
I agree, but sadly I wasn't as lucky one of my houses severely flooded during Harvey, it was 5 feet under water. This disaster was a huge wake up call that Climate change is taking a heavy toll on the world right now. After Harvey another strong hurricane formed, a category 5 hurricane named Irma. I'm sure everyone knows about that, since it was all over the news, and then Jose formed, another strong hurricane. Having a back-to- back hurricane was the first in the history of the U.S., but then another formed I think everyone is realizing that something is happening with the weather. This is not an everyday thing. Climate change is becoming a large problem now and we all need to soon realize it soon, eventually we won't be able to change anything. But now, since we can, we should be doing everything in our power to help reduce CO2 in the atmosphere. I hope we can all learn from this.
