In the Northern Hemisphere in 2017 and 2018 brought several destructive hurricanes to the shores of North America, the Caribbean, and throughout the Pacific rim. Such extreme weather events are predicted to get more common and more severe with increasing climate change.
Several participating classes in the ISCFC were or are in the path of these storms and we hope for the best for them, their families and communities.
We would love to hear from students affected directly and indirectly by extreme weather events, and also any students who have been following the news this summer.
What are your thoughts about the connection between climate change and extreme weather events? Has this hurricane season increased your concern about climate change or not? Do you think that US citizens and residents (and others in the region) will take climate change more seriously now?

High Sea Levels and Too Many Hurricanes!
From all the excess carbon dioxide that humans produce, it causes extreme weather, like hurricanes, draughts, and very hot weather. The hot weather causes the polar ice caps to melt. This is hurtful for both animals and humans. The animals like polar bears lose their habitat and all the melted ice causes the sea levels to rise dramatically. Cities like Venice, Italy and Miami, Florida are in it for the worst. Part of the cities are already underwater and will not have a positive future if no one does anything to stop this. Some other extreme weather has been all the hurricanes that have happened recently. They wiped out a lot of southern Florida and all of Houston. These disasters are very serious and tragic and are caused from global warming. We need to try out best to reduce our carbon footprint as much as possible to prevent these kinds of things, and more extreme weather, as the years go by.
All the change by global warming is crazy. Climatehotmap.org, 40 percent of the population of the earth will have to move before major floods. Basically, everyone who lives near a large body of water will need to move. This is due to the hotter weather which makes the polar ice caps melt. The floods would kill many animals and threaten nearby water supplies. WE NEED TO STOP HEATING THE PLANET UP!
