In the Northern Hemisphere in 2017 and 2018 brought several destructive hurricanes to the shores of North America, the Caribbean, and throughout the Pacific rim. Such extreme weather events are predicted to get more common and more severe with increasing climate change.
Several participating classes in the ISCFC were or are in the path of these storms and we hope for the best for them, their families and communities.
We would love to hear from students affected directly and indirectly by extreme weather events, and also any students who have been following the news this summer.
What are your thoughts about the connection between climate change and extreme weather events? Has this hurricane season increased your concern about climate change or not? Do you think that US citizens and residents (and others in the region) will take climate change more seriously now?

Something's Wrong With the Weather!
Throughout the past few decades, there have been many changes in weather, some slight, others drastic. There has been an increase in hurricanes, due to the rise in temperature and pressure changes. There was a long drought in California also because of temperature changes and our agricultural industries. Weather is fluctuating more, instead of periodically changing. Hopefully, we can find solutions to there problems. We should all try lowering out carbon footprints and making Earth greener.
I agree! All the carbon in the air has been messing with our climate! I thought snow in Oakland was impossible but if our carbon footprint gets worse then it will keep escalating. As you mentioned, California is a major agricultural supplier for our country. With indeterminate weather, we will not be able to grow crops and will have a major effect on our economy.
Snow does seem weird in Oakland, especially in April! If we don't take action now, I am pretty sure that more extreme weather will occur. We should try and find alternatives to our carbon-emitting resources, which will surely lower our footprints. Hopefully, if we do this, the weather will calm down as well.
