Extreme Weather

In the Northern Hemisphere in 2017 and 2018 brought several destructive hurricanes to the shores of North America, the Caribbean, and throughout the Pacific rim. Such extreme weather events are predicted to get more common and more severe with increasing climate change.

Several participating classes in the ISCFC were or are in the path of these storms and we hope for the best for them, their families and communities.

We would love to hear from students affected directly and indirectly by extreme weather events, and also any students who have been following the news this summer.

What are your thoughts about the connection between climate change and extreme weather events? Has this hurricane season increased your concern about climate change or not? Do you think that US citizens and residents (and others in the region) will take climate change more seriously now?

Global warming

Global warming is a serious issue that the whole world faces. Global warming is caused by our consistent burning of fossil fuels and other harmful power sources we use. It maybe hard but it is very IMPORTANT that we need to be more conscious about how burning these materials because it will speed up the process of Global warming. We should think about ways to contribute to the reduction of carbons presents in the atmosphere by planting gardens or recycling, which may not seem like much but will help in the "reversal" of global warming.

I totally agree with you Isi! Global warming is a huge issue and we need to work to raise awareness about it. There are many very serious consequences of global warming. A few examples are more severe weather patterns, higher sea levels, and higher death rates. Scientists from NRDC say that global warming is the "biggest global health threat of the 21st century", as the temperatures rise so do the chances of illness, emergency room visits and death. Dirtier air is also a result of global warming which also causes higher hospital admissions and more death. The biggest way to help prevent global warming is to speak up, you could also use renewable energy in your home and reduce your water waste.
