In the Northern Hemisphere in 2017 and 2018 brought several destructive hurricanes to the shores of North America, the Caribbean, and throughout the Pacific rim. Such extreme weather events are predicted to get more common and more severe with increasing climate change.
Several participating classes in the ISCFC were or are in the path of these storms and we hope for the best for them, their families and communities.
We would love to hear from students affected directly and indirectly by extreme weather events, and also any students who have been following the news this summer.
What are your thoughts about the connection between climate change and extreme weather events? Has this hurricane season increased your concern about climate change or not? Do you think that US citizens and residents (and others in the region) will take climate change more seriously now?

The weather is Crazy!!
Throughout the last years are weather has been crazy and has been changing so much. We have has such big hurricanes and earthquakes and other big natural disasters. The one that really affected me was the drought and big wildfires. The temperature has been going up very drastically the carbon dioxide in the air have caused the crazy weather and the temperature going up. The weather has been changing so drastically and very fast, last week it rained and "snowed" and now it is really hot. The weather has been changing so much in the bay area and it is not normal. We have to keep our earth healthy and we can all do this by lowering are carbon footprint.
I agree with you Nekay. In my area we have had very inconsistent weather changes and patterns. For example, just last week it was one of the coldest days we have had in a long time. It was not only below freezing, it was also hailing really hard, which is a rare occurrence in my area. However, this week has been blazing hot with clear skies and weather in the 80s. I believe the weather itnconsitentce is due to climate change and global warming. If you recall, our last hurricane season was the worst one season we have ever had. All over the world, millions of people were being affected by record breaking hurricanes. Also, many natural disasters have occurred as well causing many people to lose their homes and have their lives affected. Although these terrible things have been happening all over the world, I believe it is humanity's own fault. We as a society have been overusing and burning fossil fuels which is affecting our planet in very drastic ways. I believe in order to fix the weather changes, we need to stop burning all of these fossil fuels and look to alternativ es such as algae to power our cars, solar power, wind and turbine power, and many more. In order to lower our carbon footprint, the entire world must chip in and help, without the backing of billions of people, we may never see our world the same again.
I agree! We have to do something or are earth will suffer a lot of damage. I agree that we have to lessen are fossil fuels that we let into to our air and also being aware of how much carbon is getting let into to the air. If everyone can chip in and lessen their carbon footprint we will be able to lessen the damage that humanity has done to the planet we call home.
