Extreme Weather

In the Northern Hemisphere in 2017 and 2018 brought several destructive hurricanes to the shores of North America, the Caribbean, and throughout the Pacific rim. Such extreme weather events are predicted to get more common and more severe with increasing climate change.

Several participating classes in the ISCFC were or are in the path of these storms and we hope for the best for them, their families and communities.

We would love to hear from students affected directly and indirectly by extreme weather events, and also any students who have been following the news this summer.

What are your thoughts about the connection between climate change and extreme weather events? Has this hurricane season increased your concern about climate change or not? Do you think that US citizens and residents (and others in the region) will take climate change more seriously now?

Weather Crisis

Climate change has been effecting our warm weather and cold weather fronts because of the increasing amount of greenhouse gasses trapping in heat in our atmosphere. This process is throwing of our weather and creating disastrous weather events around the globe. Hurricane season has increased my concern about Global Warming because I have seen the physically damage of our extensive greenhouse gas emissions and how it has effected people and homes. Now that Americans and others have seen the direct effects of this disastrous weather I believe they will take climate change more seriously.  They have now lived to see the harm climate change has on real people and real lives and hopefully Americans will be more compassionate to think before they are wasteful and emit excessively.

I agree with what ur saying about how climate change has been effecting the warm weather because of the greenhouse gasses being trapped. Also since the hurricane season increased, it also makes the physical features change, like more rain and wind, and less sun and warmth. Although we live in a relatively warm place, places that are colder, like Alaska and Canada's ice structures are sinking. The loss of sea ice, accelerated sea level rise and longer, more intense heat waves are effects of climate change. The extent of climate change effects on individual regions. This means that it will vary over time when different societal and environmental systems to mitigate or adapt to change.

I agree with what you are saying about how scary hurricane season has become. In addition, the sea levels are rising because of the melting ice caps, due to the large amount of greenhouse gases that are overheating the Earth. This is causing flooding all over the world and the rise in the number of floods concerns me. Moreover, the homes for many arctic animals are being destroyed because the arctic ice that they live on is melting due to the emission of fossil fuels into the atmosphere. Similarly to what you had said Erin, I hope that we humans can become more empathetic to other wildlife on Earth, and think about how we can help reduce our carbon footprints.

I agree with your analysis on how the greenhouse gases are affecting warm and cold weather. I also think that the hurricane season has gotten very bad lately and  I think we need to do something about it.

I completely agree with what you're saying about how our climate is being affected mostly by the gasses constantly being trapped in our atmosphere. These gasses also heat up the atmosphere causing low pressure systems to form, this where mostly new hurricanes and thunderstorms are coming from.
