In the Northern Hemisphere in 2017 and 2018 brought several destructive hurricanes to the shores of North America, the Caribbean, and throughout the Pacific rim. Such extreme weather events are predicted to get more common and more severe with increasing climate change.
Several participating classes in the ISCFC were or are in the path of these storms and we hope for the best for them, their families and communities.
We would love to hear from students affected directly and indirectly by extreme weather events, and also any students who have been following the news this summer.
What are your thoughts about the connection between climate change and extreme weather events? Has this hurricane season increased your concern about climate change or not? Do you think that US citizens and residents (and others in the region) will take climate change more seriously now?

Extreme Weather Caused By Global Warming
The Earth is heating up, fueling hurricanes and tornados. The heat over big bodies of water like the Atlantic form the spiraling body of warm air and cold air. Floods are increasing because the ice caps are melting, raising the sea level. Difference in temperatures are negatively affecting ecosystems, changing the food web and resources. All of this recent increase of extreme weather is caused by the high CO2 + radiation absorbing gas levels. High gas concentration levels are caused by sources like airplanes, manufacturing factories, cows, cars, and much more. Gases like CO2 and methane absorb the heat from the sun and emits it back into space. Since more and more of these gases are in the atmosphere, more and more heat is being absorbed than emitted, causing Global Warming. Overall, all of this is caused by the industrialized human era. If we do not change how we create energy and products, in 11 years, the Earth will not be able to go back to it's original state , before extreme weather and heat levels. This is a problem that greatly needs to be payed attention too. Many people ignore global warming and treat it as a hoax when it is destroying our world today. I believe we need everyone to work together to help the world and end global warming. Everyone can do their part and lessen their impact on global warming.
global warming is real and i cant believe people think it doesn't we have too many people on our planet we are ruining it and we dont even care or notice that the bad weather will get worse this is just the start but its not to late to realize that their is a correlation and that global warming is real we must come together as 1 to beat thanos from ending our planet
I agree wholeheartedly with you all. I think that the common misconception people have is that global warming means that every day is going to be super hot and that is the only thing that is going to change. Therefore, when it gets colder or more rainy during a hurricane, the severe weather is dismissed. Climate change on the other hand explains this phenomena much better to people who do not fully buy into the idea of global warming. I agree that it is terrible for our world that so many people can claim that science is fake news while whatever they are consuming would not be considered fake news.
