Reuse & Repurpose

It's very tempting to throw things away or even drop them in a recycling bin when we are done with them. Is there a better way?

Share your ideas for extending the “lives” of the items that we buy and use, and their packaging as well!

Little Things That Help the Big Picture

I’ve compiled a neat little list of things that I’ve done, or plan on doing that can certainly help contribute to lowering carbon emissions.
-Re-use jelly jars or mason jars to store salads, smoothies, and snacks! It’s trendy and portable.
-Use grocery store bags as trash can liners
-Buy a reusable lunch tote—don’t bring a brown bag every day
-Wrap presents in newspaper or old road maps
-Make art out of it! Punch a hole in a scratched CD and hang it from your ceiling. Use old clothing for costume fabric. Make a bracelet out of soda can tabs.
-Use unwanted used paper as packaging lining
-Use Styrofoam blocks as an earring holder—just punch them straight in
-Plant herbs in soup cans, shoes, yogurt containers
-Use glass drink bottles as tealight candle holders
-Cut your old t-shirts into new shapes, hair ties, or even tote bags (upcycle or mend clothing)
-Ask your teachers to double-sided print assignments, or only use half-sheets
According to National Geographic, 67.5% of trash generated gets incinerated or goes to a landfill compared to only 33% that gets recycled. By  extending the life of items, we are reducing the number of items we buy, and therefore reducing the amount of products that need to be produced overall.
These are just a few of my ideas! I’d be interested in hearing some of yours.

This will definitely help reduce waste and make things that could otherwise cost more. It will also cut down on CO2 created by waste factories and will help cut down on the greenhouse affect. This will hopefully appear to more people who would want to do these small things that will help our Earth slow down the global warming process.
