Hand-me-downs are a great way to not only save money, but to extend the use of worn out clothes. People tend to be very wasteful when it comes to old clothing by just throwing "crumby" items away when they are grown out of, or have supposedly gone out of style. As a child, when my older cousins came to visit for birthdays and holidays, they would bring me lots of their clothes they were done wearing. I always loved getting these because they were "new" to me but were also being environmentally savvy instead of just being thrown out. When I grew out of the clothing we would give it to neighbors with younger children or we would donate them so that either way, they were going to be reused for as long as possible. I definitely believe that handing clothes down to siblings or less fortunate people is a great way to not waste something that is still perfectly useful to someone else.
Not only is this a good idea for being resourceful, but it also saves money. Buying new clothes every weekend is excessive but unfortunately very common. Many families cannot afford to buy new clo thes whenever a style changes, or even when they grow out of what they already own. Sharing or trading clothing among friends and family is an efficient way to save money while also prolonging the life of an article of clothing.
