Reuse & Repurpose

It's very tempting to throw things away or even drop them in a recycling bin when we are done with them. Is there a better way?

Share your ideas for extending the “lives” of the items that we buy and use, and their packaging as well!

Plastic Bottles Pollute!

bridie

Have you ever considered how many plastic water bottles you have used throughout your lifetime? For me, it has probably been thousands! Most of those plastic bottles don't even get recycled. In fact, this study http://www.healthebay.org/blogs-news/re … iple-bonus shows that only 16% of those bottles are actually recycled. The rest are being thrown into oceans, out on the street, and put into landfills just to pollute the earth. Instead of buying these bottles, invest in a reusable water bottle that you can fill up with tap water. Tap water is actually more regulated water than the liquids put inside plastic bottles. Only 30-40% of the water is actually tested in the packs of water! So, if you want to help the environment, invest in a cute reusable water bottle! And, if you ever do use a plastic one, make sure to recycle it!

I completely agree with this post. Helping the environment by simply recycling is important for the world and its pollution problem. Fixing this can be as easy as recycling your plastic water bottles when you finish them or just simply getting a reusable water bottle. Getting a reusable water bottle could be so helpful for the environment because the plastic could even be harmful and one less person can make a huge difference. Thank you for bringing up such an important point about peoples laziness with water bottles.

I love that you brought this issue to mind. I also have a suggestion that schools should start fundraising for water bottle fillers or water fountains. It can be tempting for students to buy the cheap bottles in the vending machines rather than stick to his/her own reusable bottle. There is a filler at my school that shows exactly how many plastic water bottles are being replaced by using it. However, I find it interesting that literally across from it is a huge vending machine filled with plastics of all kinds. Yes, there may be a line to get your water bottle refilled, but the lazy alternative of buying something quickly is so much unhealthier for the environment.
