It's very tempting to throw things away or even drop them in a recycling bin when we are done with them. Is there a better way?

Trees
Deforestation. It's everywhere...The United States is growing and the trees are leaving. That's not bad, right? Wrong. http://environment.nationalgeographic.c … -overview/ shows all of the dangers that come hand in hand with chopping down the trees in the environment. It calls deforestation "the modern day plague". I could not agree any more on this statement. Did you know that trees can absorb CO2 from the atmosphere? http://www.ncsu.edu/project/treesofstre … nefits.htm is a great resource to read about the many benefits that trees have. Aside from them looking beautiful, trees can serve endless purposes in a community. Sit underneath them for some shade or grow apples in the spring. They smell great, look pretty, are inexpensive, and are proven to help people struggling with depression. Yes, we need trees for paper and building houses, but think about buying recycled paper the next time you are at a store. It makes suc h a small difference on that one assignment you may have to do, but in the long run, it can keep a tall tree standing tall in your front yard. How cool is that?
I agree with you. We need trees to survive. Instead of chopping them down we should be planting more of them.
I definitely agree with you. I also find it funny that trees help prevent global warming, while being lethally affected by global warming! In the Western United States the frequency of wildfires has been increasing rapidly due, mainly, to the climate change. Climate change is doing many things to increase the probability of wildfires. For example it creates dryness in the forest ecosystem. Scientists predict that temperatures in the summer will be 3-6 degrees fahrenheit higher by the middle of this century! This will increase the rate of evaporation, and since the rate of precipitation is predicted to drop by 15%, there will be nothing to replenish the forests!
Another factor that climate change could contribute to wildfires is the fact that high and dry temperatures attract many types of insects. These insects will infest trees and cause them to die, meaning they're highly combustible. (more likely to catch fire) I found this particularly interesting.
So, while I agree with you about trees being a major benefactor to our efforts to decrease the amounts of CO2 in our a tmosphere, I also think that we should not rely primarily on trees to do this. They can be so easily destroyed by the forces we are trying to prevent! Maybe we should invest in a less vulnerable source to clear our atmosphere, and then we can look into saving our trees.
I completely agree with you. Trees suck up carbon dioxide and give us oxygen we need. With wildfires and trees getting cut down, there are much less trees than there used to be. With this happening, the Carbon dioxide we let out no longer goes as much to the trees, but now more to the atmosphere. This is one of the many carbon dioxide releases into the atmosphere. This is a lose-lose situation for us. Trees are very important to us and they definitely need to stay!
I definitely agree! We need to stop deforestation because trees are very important to our environment. They absorb CO2 and release oxygen everyday, which keeps us alive. We need to stop deforestation because trees have many amazing different uses. Go trees!
