It's very tempting to throw things away or even drop them in a recycling bin when we are done with them. Is there a better way?

(Not So) New Clothing
Reusing old things doesn't have to be boring! You can "upcycle" old clothing to create new fashion in a cheap, eco-friendly way. The fashion industry creates a lot of carbon emissions, with shipping, packaging, producing, and much more (Check out this article for more info: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1964887/). In some projects, you can really let your creativity shine and use lots of materials to create a beautiful clothing item. However, all you really need are some scissors and and an article of clothing to make something new. It's a much more eco-friendly way than just throwing it away. So next time you grow out of your jeans, or your t-shirt has gotten boring, don't get rid of it! Instead, go the more eco-friendly route and create some "new" clothing.

This is a great point! All it takes is a quick search on Pinterest or any other craft blogs to see how many wonderful, easy and creative uses there are for used/ old clothing. I donate a large portion of my old clothes to Goodwill and Salvation Army, the only exceptions being things with holes or large obnoxious stains on them. This link has some great ideas! http://www.pinterest.com/russelljen/way … d-clothes/
This is a really good idea. Out-of-season clothes can be created into something new and can definitely be worn again. The first section of your article when it compares American girls with an African teenager really hit me. Why should we buy new clothes and fill our closets every season when people in different parts of the world may only have one shirt a year? When we go out to buy different clothes, we need to remember these people and realize we could do without those pants or that shirt, and instead donate to a charity or a clothing drive. Makenna brings up a great point about the Salvation Army and Goodwill. I too donate my clothes, and encourage others to do so.
This is a great idea! We used to throw out our older clothes until we realized we could just cut them up and make cute things we still wear. And if we ever don't want to cut up our old clothes, we always take them to the local Goodwill because we have enough clothes as is and it's always good to remember that you might not always need another shirt when someone else truly needs one.
I really like this idea! Whenever I get bored of my clothes, I just tend to buy new ones. I've never really thought of reinventing them like you suggest. I don't consider myself a particularly crafty person, but I'd love to learn how to turn my old clothing into items I can happily wear again. As mentioned by the others above, I think another good thing to do when you get bored of your clothes is to donate them to charities that help people in need. There's always someone out there who could use some new clothing but can't afford it.
