Reuse & Repurpose

It's very tempting to throw things away or even drop them in a recycling bin when we are done with them. Is there a better way?

Share your ideas for extending the “lives” of the items that we buy and use, and their packaging as well!

Reusing Everyday Items

I am very proud of how much my family does to try and reuse things instead of tossing them in the garbage. For example my dad brings lots of paper home from work that only has print on one side. He takes that paper and instead of sticking it in the recycling he puts it near the printer so that when we are printing out something that does not need to be on perfect clean paper we can use that paper rather than waste it.

My mom will keep the containers of things like sour cream and cheese for later use. When the container is empty she cleans it out and puts it with our other containers so that we don't throw it out or have to go out and buy other containers. I use my reusable water bottle so that I don't have to continue to buy and throw out the plastic water bottles. Not only does it mean I don't have to waste bottles I can also put ice into my water bottle to keep my water cooler, it is a win win!

Those are all great things to help the environment. My family does the container thing also. I wish that we didn't use so many water bottles and we have been using more reusable ones.

My family also saves food containers for later use. It not only helps the environment but it also helps us by not having to waste money on plastic containers. I am guilty of using many plastic water bottles, especially during school in the cafeteria. Even though I recycle my plastic bottles, I have started to bring a reusable water bottle to school.

I love how you reuse things, sometimes my mom as well wash the cream containers for using them later and we reuse the paper that we print in home. I thing following the 3 R we can create a big change, so we need to be concious and think sustainable to help the enviorment, society and economy.
