Reuse & Repurpose

It's very tempting to throw things away or even drop them in a recycling bin when we are done with them. Is there a better way?

Share your ideas for extending the “lives” of the items that we buy and use, and their packaging as well!

How I Use Tupperware in My Lunch

murphymadeleine17

Every day, I bring my own lunch to school, and a lot of my friends do too. I often see people using plastic bags for their sandwiches or other snacks, and I know that this is one of the worst things we can do for our environment. Additionally, even using "recyclable" plastic water bottles isn't the best thing for our environment. That's why I strive to use reusable water bottles and tupperware in my lunch every day. I have plastic tupperware containers for snacks and my lunch and I have a reusable water bottle that I bring to school and my cross country practice every day. I think that one of the best things you can do to extend the lives of the things you buy are to reuse them, or to just buy reusable containers in the first place. In addition, I have used old packaging of other foods as tupperware. If you buy an item at the store that comes in a plastic container with a lid, when you are done with the food you can reuse that container as tupperware for your snack at school or work! I think this is one of the best ways to extend the lives of the items we use and help th e environment in the process, and I encourage others to ditch the plastic bags and bottles and use reusable containers!

I agree with you, I also bring my lunch to school but a lot of people think that these reusable containers are not affordable, so what can we do with that?

You could definitely tell your friends about reusing containers from things they buy at the store! I know a lot of foods like cheese come in containers with lids! In addition, I believe a lot of dollar stores or stores like Walmart and Target sell cheap tupperware, so you can tell your friends that it is easy to find affordable and long lasting containers.

I agree with both of you! I brought my lunch all of last year and I had a separate ziploc bag for everything. I never even thought about how wasteful that was. Even though I buy my lunch now, buying tupperware is a great and earth friendly alternative. Ziploc bags are used only once while tupperware can be used 6,000 times.
