Reuse & Repurpose

It's very tempting to throw things away or even drop them in a recycling bin when we are done with them. Is there a better way?

Share your ideas for extending the “lives” of the items that we buy and use, and their packaging as well!

Think Before You Throw

Often times at school we buy cups, use paper plates, and just throw them away. Every time we want to buy another drink, we have to use another cup when the cup that was used earlier could have easily been washed and reused. The problem with paper cups with lids on them, is that they are not portable, and they spill easily, regardless of the lids on them. People should bring a water bottle, tumblers, and other portable drinking devices. I have noticed that i use roughly three cups during the school day; during volleyball we have paper cups by the water dispenser, and i use about four of those! I don't realize the bad i am doing to the environment because i recycle all the time. But can you imagine the world if there weren't any plastic water bottles, and non-reusable paper cups being thrown away?

I think that your post is very important. The solution to the problem of water bottles is so simple, and yet it still seems to evade us. The affect of our laziness and forgetfulness is adding up, causing harm not only to our environment, but also to other creatures that inhabit it, such as sea turtles. I think that if we could tackle our overuse of plastic water bottles and paper cups, we would be one step closer to overcoming the affects of global warming.

Using disposable cups, paper plates, and utensils is a significant problem in our society. I often find myself ignoring the warnings I hear about these items piling up in our landfills today. One cup or plate leads to another, until we end up with a pile of items that we could have easily reused. According to http://www.epa.gov/reg3wcmd/solidwaster … facts.htm, Americans throw away approximately 25,000,000,000 styrofoam cups a year. There are a few simple solutions to these problems. First off, people could write names on cups so that they can easily be identifiable and we wouldn't throw away as many cups by worrying about using someone else's. To  make things even easier, people could make it a habit to bring around their own portable drinking devices and utensils. If we don't take the initiative now to take care of these small problems, we could be looking at mountains upon mountains of trash in our near future.
