Reuse & Repurpose

It's very tempting to throw things away or even drop them in a recycling bin when we are done with them. Is there a better way?

Share your ideas for extending the “lives” of the items that we buy and use, and their packaging as well!

Reducing Trash

One of the biggest factors in my carbon footprint was the amount of trash thrown away from week to week. When I thought about it more thourougly, most of the trash that is thrown away in my household comes from my family's food products. Most food products come in packaging that can only be used once, and is not always able to be recycled. When I delved further into this thought, I again realized that almost all of the foods that come in packaging are pre-made foods. Fruits, vegetables, nuts, and other ingredients such as meat come with little to no packaging. Additionally drinks that come in larger sizes create much less waste than those that come in 6-packs. By refraining from buying premade foods(such as salads) and instead making them by ourselves, we can reduce a lot of waste. By buying drinks by the liter or gallon, instead of in smaller packages, we can also reduce waste. If communities took action and worked together to reduce packaging on food products, it would reduce the population's carbon footprint immensely!

Hello, this is Lois from China. I am totally agree with your opinion, because this situation happened a lot in our country. People always pay lots of attention to the food packing. If those food are looking nice, most of people will buy them because of the nice packing. However, the nice food packing is not that important and necessary in our life. The healthy food inside the food packing is what we real need. Therefore, let us pay more attention to the healthy food instead of the food packing.
