It's very tempting to throw things away or even drop them in a recycling bin when we are done with them. Is there a better way?

Glass Recycling
My family’s previous recycling company didn’t accept glass, and for a few years we threw out glass containers instead of recycling it. This is problematic because 90% of glass products can be reused and remade into new containers. Glass waste can also be used for paving (glassphalt). There are multiple ways glass could be used for art projects as well. However there are some products that can’t be used due to additional substances in the glass which make it impure such as light bulbs and window panes. Glass recycling actually reduces water pollution by 50% and air pollution by 20%. Glass recycling also keeps us from using raw materials for glass production. In some countries, glass bottles are returnable as long as they’re washed and rinsed. There are even bottle banks around countries in Europe. The more glass recycled, the less amount of waste going to landfills.

Glass recycling seems like an underrated category in the glass, paper, and plastic trio. I think that there are many reasons for this. In my family, we don't go through as many glass jars because they're re-purposed to hold leftovers. However, of course there's always the average light bulb or broken cup that ends up in the trash can. It's really amazing to think that 95% of recycled glass can substitute for the raw materials used in glass factories. Energy costs drop 2-3% for every 10% of ready-to-use recycled glass in the manufacturing process. Even recycling a little goes a long way. I think one effective way to promote recycling glass is putting bins in bars. Honestly, bars are very populated places, and thinking about how many bottles they go through and how many glasses are broken, I think it would be an effective way to save precious resources in glass production.
