Reuse & Repurpose

It's very tempting to throw things away or even drop them in a recycling bin when we are done with them. Is there a better way?

Share your ideas for extending the “lives” of the items that we buy and use, and their packaging as well!

Creative Recycling

Reusing items doesn't always have to be as boring and time consuming as it sounds. There are many fun and creative ways to reuse old things and make them into useful items. One of my favorite ideas is something my neighbor shared with me, she took all of her old t-shirts from high school and made them into a quilt that she took to college with her.  Although t- shirts don't cause much damage to the environment, it is a good way to compile them all into one useful  and memorable item. Another item that can be creatively reused is tires. My pre-school used to use tires to plant flower beds in, it can be very cute especially if you spray paint the tires fun colors. There are endless possibilities; bread bad clips can be used to label cords, egg cartons can be used for crafts, and so much more. All we have to do is get a little creative, and we can save the plant and have fun.

Hello Claire, I totally agree with you, we are making reusing, recycle and reduce look boring when actually we can make it look awesome or at least cool, but we need to come up with good ideas, and with something that people actually may like watching or what they may like when they are using the 3R's. But I would like to know more details of items or other things to make cool these kind of stuff.

Hi oscar, well there are many more ideas you can do.  I saw somewhere that this lady took an old bathtub and planted flowers and herbs and stuff in it. I think that using old things to plant gardens in is such a cool idea. You could do with with just about anything too like old lamps or shoes even. Another cool idea is taking old bicycle tires and allowing ivy or jasmine to grow up the tires and kind of intertwine with them (I saw that on pinterest). I'm glad you're interested in making recycling fun and creative!

I really love your idea Claire! I thought that they were a really fun and creative way to recycle. If more people would get on board with this idea, I think that we could lower the global carbon footprint drastically. People would be more willing to recycle with the "Pinterest" -esque method, than the normal methods of recycling.
