Reuse & Repurpose

It's very tempting to throw things away or even drop them in a recycling bin when we are done with them. Is there a better way?

Share your ideas for extending the “lives” of the items that we buy and use, and their packaging as well!

5 Easy Ways to Help the Environment

katyasusa

We as humans can be very harmful to the environment if we are not careful. Everyday we damage the environment more and more. Here are 5 easy ways to help the Earth. Just a little bit can make a difference.

1. Carry a water bottle with you wherever you go.
All though it may not seem like much but if you have your water bottle with you all the time, you will not need to buy plastic water bottles, which are harmful to the environment.
2. Turn off the water when you brush your teeth.
Many people do this but if you are of the few who do not, please do this. There is no reason for the water to be left on when you are brushing your teeth, you do not need that water instead you are wasting it. It only takes one slight motion to turn off the tap.
3. Don't leave your charger plugged into the wall.
Leaving your charger plugged in will use energy, not a lot, but think of the energy you could save by just doing that simple act of unplugging.
4. Buy locally grown food.
Buying locally grown foods saves the carbon being used by transporting foods by plane or trucks. It is very simple  just look for locally grown foods at your grocery store.
5. Carpool. Carpool. Carpool.
Carpooling is an easy way to help the environment. For example, I carpool with two other people, we save three times as much gas by all 3 of us carpooling together.

I totally agree with all of them, but in regards of your fifth point, I also suggest using public transport whenever you can. I agree that in some countries public transport isn't convenient or just isn't possible because of the distance you have to commute, but if you can, try it, it is better for the envoirement, can be faster then being jammed in traffic and it is generally more cost effective. Best regards from Switzerland!

Not plugging in your chargers all the time is a great way to save energy that not everyone is aware of. I am definitely going to keep this in mind

audreybusa

How can you reduce the water pressure of your sink? I would love to do that if i knew how.

Always turn off electronics when you're done using them

Even if you have to buy plastic water bottles you can try re using them a few times before tossing them away.

Always turn off the lights when you leave a room.

Wow! I had no idea that leaving your charger in the wall still uses energy, that's so shocking  because it's just something so simple that people just don't know about. Does this mean that leaving Tvs, computers and even microwaves plugged in uses energy? It could be such an effortless thing to just unplug them when we're done, but it could make some change if enough people do it.

Almost all electronics in general use a small amount of electricity when plugged in when they're not in use. However, the practicality of everyone turning for example the microwave when your done by unplugging it or your oven is not as smart and easy as unplugging a phone charger which more people can do!
