Reuse & Repurpose

It's very tempting to throw things away or even drop them in a recycling bin when we are done with them. Is there a better way?

Share your ideas for extending the “lives” of the items that we buy and use, and their packaging as well!

stop using plastic bags

Alesya

They are a public health threat.

These plastic bags don’t just make our world uglier, they make it unhealthier too. As the bags deteriorate, their chemical components begin to break down, degrading soil and water quality. And if incinerated, these chemicals are similarly released into the atmosphere.

Not only plastic bags, but maybe all forms of plastic. Another way to prevent this threat is by using reusable water bottles. At my school, the sustainability department encourages and advises the school community not to use or bring plastic water bottles on campus. They have set up filtered water stations all around campus, for the students and staff to refill their reusable water bottles.

I agree with both of you. Plastic is not good for the environment. All it does is end up in the ocean and kill other animals and pollutes the environment. I think one way we can solve this problem is too, yes stop using plastic and general, but using compost. For example, the plastic soda bottles or water bottles we buy from the stores and vending machines, they could be made from compost.

I agree with you opinion, Alesya. Plastic bags in our time very much and are used by almost all  Too bad not everyone understands the real danger as for the environment.

However, plastic bags are cheap, easy to use, easy to manufacture, and easier to recycle than paper. The current economic benefits are too substantial for most businesses to make the switch to mainly paper bags.
