Reuse & Repurpose

It's very tempting to throw things away or even drop them in a recycling bin when we are done with them. Is there a better way?

Share your ideas for extending the “lives” of the items that we buy and use, and their packaging as well!

Repurpose and Make it New

Last year with my class we made rugs from our old t-shirts. I now have that rug in my room. It is always good to repurpose because you can keep things you do not use and make them into something you can use. If you cannot find a way to use your old t-shirts try dropping them off at a thrift store, so others can use them.

I completely agree with you Margaret. Reusing and repurposing items is a good way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which is better for the environment. By not throwing items away, less pollution is created, and less energy is used from the materials used to make items. If people reused things until they were defunct, energy would be saved and the environment would be greener. ♻️

I very much agree with what you said. Now a days, people do not realize all of the potential that items we are done using at the time have. Reusing is something that people really need to start doing more. In my house we do not use plastic bags anymore, we use paper bags as our compost bin, and reusable cloth bags when shopping. We also reuse our clothes in any way we can, when a t-shirt is to small to wear, we cut it up and use it as a rag for cleaning. So there are so many nifty and innovative ways of reusing and finding ways to re purpose things.

This is an amazing point that I probably should begin to do also. I, along with many other people often pass up opportunities to reuse things or give something so someone else that would fine good use of items. We live in a country of abundance and should be more conscious of what we are throwing away. 254 million tons of waste was produced in the US in 2013, according to https://www.epa.gov/ Along with that, we composted and recycled 87 million tons of our waste. All that waste is going into landfills, but composting and recycling is a much more efficient way to reuse a lot of the things that we normally throw away.

I agree with what you are saying. It is very important to reuse things that are still reusable. There is many ways that you can reuse old clothing such as making them into cute accessories according tohttp://www.wikihow.com/Reuse-Old-Clothes. You can also donate clothing to people who need it which can reduce the amount of waste and helps someone else at the same time.
