It's very tempting to throw things away or even drop them in a recycling bin when we are done with them. Is there a better way?

Recycling is a way to reduce your carbon footprint and eliminate waste filling landfills around the country. The process of recycling is the break down and reuse of many items such as paper, plastic, glass, and aluminum. According to Facts.net Americans produce more than 200 million tons of waste every year. The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that about 75 percent of our waste is recyclable. However, we only recycle 30 percent. The United States generates 15-20 million tons of food waste per year. An average American will create more than 100 pounds of food waste in a year. If we could compose all of our food waste we would be able to reduce greenhouse gases equivalent to taking 2 million cars off the road.
Another thing you can recycle is water. Without water plants and animals wouldn’t have the ability to live. More importantly than recycling water is conserving the water we have. According to Facts.net leaving the sink running while brushing your teeth wastes two and a half gallons of water. Also, not turning your sink off all the way can lead to one dr op of water per second which equals 540 gallons of water per year. You can change your water usage by turning off the sink fully while brushing your teeth and by getting a leaking sink fixed immediately. I believe that water is very important for everything and that we need to change our bad habits by saving water if we want there to be any left for future generations.
