It's very tempting to throw things away or even drop them in a recycling bin when we are done with them. Is there a better way?

Grocery Bags
I think that even though some people say California has a high carbon footprint, there are some people that are helping the environment everyday and trying to change this, but this sometimes goes without notice. For instance, places like Oakland, Alameda, and San Francisco don't give away plastic grocery bags to costumers anymore. This forces people to bring in their own reusable bags to shop with. I think this is a very clever and helpful idea. There should be more laws like this throughout the United States and the world, not just in California.
Same but kind of not, although I am from South Carolina there is a chain called Aldi’s. At Aldi’s they do have bags but their bags come with a price. This encourages people to either reuse plastic bags that they get from other stores or to use cloth bags. Stores such as Target, Trader Joe’s and Whole foods pay you to use your own cloth bags. A lot of people really do want to conserve money. I think by making it cheaper to bring cloth bags to the store rather than using the store’s plastic bags gives people more of a self-purpose or motivation for bringing cloth bags. Everyone knows that for most people the amount of money in their wallet is more important than the environment. I think that other environmentally friendly options should be cheaper. These items include recycled paper products and recycled plastic products. I really hope more stores adopt this.
I agreee, the law just shouldn't be in California it should also be in other states too, If not all of them. I only use reusable bags when I go to the store because getting the bags now just clutters up everything and ends up just being wasted and not put to good use other than holding items at the time you purchase them.
Reusable bags for any kind of shopping would be very helpful because the plastic bags would just end up in waste anyway. Encouraging shoppers to bring in their own bags would definitely make a big impact and help our carbon footprint. Reusable bags would also last longer and overall be more eco friendly to our environment.
Reusable bags would make it so we dont have to use so much plastic that has to go to the trash
In my county here in Texas, we are no longer aloud to use plastic bags for carrying groceries. Now we are either required to bring or buy our own reusable bags or carry it all individually.
Using reusable grocery bags is a great idea. However, a lot of people forget to bring their own reusable bags. Therefore, a lot of people have tons of grocery bags that they just throw away. But, there are other solutions. An organization called Citizens for Animal Protection, or Cap, is a non-profit organization that helps homeless animals find a new, loving home. Besides adopting, you can also volunteer at CAP. One thing they do, is collect plastic bags to help clean up after the animals. They are reusing the plastic bags, and I think that's great. You can even donate your newspaper to them. I think there are so many different ways to reuse things, such as grocery bags. I also think that bringing your own reusable bags is a good idea as well, and it really helps the earth too!

That's actually an amazing organization, Lauren! We need more organizations like that: helping clean up the earth. There's also another solution; a lot of people will still use plastic bags. However, instead of throwing them away, there are organizations that make different things out of bags. For example, an organization called Milkbags Unlimited turns milk bags (which are plastic) and turns them into mattresses for people in need. Each mattress uses about 420 bags and can last up to 25 years, which is an amazing alternative to just throwing them away! This keeps plastic bags out of the streets and out of the trash bins. Since a lot of people still use plastic bags, this allows them to keep using them, but do something beneficial afterwards!
